VIC

For the definitive source of what to do, where to visit, and how to get to places in Penrith, the Penrith Valley Visitors Information Centre is the first place to visit, offering detailed maps of the City, and a range of information for local attractions and events, accommodation and dining.

Fully accredited by Tourism New South Wales and the NSW Council of Tourist Associations, the Penrith Valley Visitors Information Centre has been providing information to locals and visitors to make the most out of the City surrounded by mountains, river and lakes, from a temporary timber framed cottage in the Panthers World of Entertainment car park, since August 1990.

In 2004, the Penrith Valley Economic Development Corporation’s Tourism Task Group, comprised of local business and tourism operators, moved to submit a proposal to redevelop the Centre and replace the temporary building with a customised Log Home building with a value of $158,000, constructed and supplied by Penrith business, Appalachian Log Homes, for a discounted cost of $80,000.

At an estimated project value of around $300,000, the Tourism Task Group also sought the support of other local tourism and business operators through expressions of interest from in-kind and cash contributions, totalling well over $200,000. Following approval of the Tourism Task Group’s proposal to Council on March 21, 2005, a Development Application was submitted to the Council, who is also contributing $80,000 to the project, on May 20, 2005, and was approved on July 12, 2005.

The new Visitors Information Centre will be located next to the current building, which will be removed once construction and fittings have been completed in the new Centre. The area for the new Centre will be 145 square metres, up from the existing building’s current 75 square metres, and will include space for displays, a staff office, public and staff toilets, and storage.

Building and fittings are expected to be completed in December, 2005.
